Back to School Health Goals
Sometimes it can feel like the start of September is more of a “New Year” than January 1st. After all, there are no leftovers.
After the whimsical fun of summer, now is the time to embrace the start of a new routine. Just like school kids, we get cleaned up from summer vacation and gear up for a more routine way to go.
If there’s one thing you need to make any goal a reality – it’s GOALS. These help you get clear about what you want to achieve, stay on track, and see results.
If you have big plans for yourself this fall, follow these goal setting tips to gear yourself up for success!
- Get really specific about your goals. Saying, “I want to control my diabetes” isn’t specific enough. What do you want your new blood sugar numbers to be? Want to start exercising everyday? Which type of exercise are you going to start up?
- Write down how you are going to reach these goals. Don’t just say “I’m going to lose 15 pounds.” Tell yourself exactly how you’re going to do that. “I’m going to wake up at 6am every day to go for a jog and cut sugar from my diet.” Create a plan for yourself.
- What is your driving force behind these goals? The why. We all know subconsciously that making a more healthy lifestyle for ourselves would improve our self confidence, energy, etc. But write down exactly what making these healthy changes will do for you. Will it make you more likely to put yourself out there in the dating scene? Will it help you overcome your fear of public speaking? Will it give you the energy to start a new project? Really connect the emotion to the goal to get all of yourself on the same page.
Other helpful tips that I go over with my clients: plan ahead, make a 100% money back commitment, reward your efforts, and check in with yourself. When you combine all of these with the right knowledge … well, it’s hard to fail!
I’m routing for you! Set your goals, put all of yourself on task to the common goal of being your best, and commit to make it happen!
And of course if you need support in making the shift with the right tools and right advice, don’t hesitate to set up a free health coaching consultation.
