Benefits of Hemp Powder and Smoothie Recipes
So I have been one-lucky-duck in the blog world lately–getting a couple AWESOME products sent my way. The first to arrive was Manitoba Hemp Protein Powder. As you know, I’m a HUGE fan of hemp: I have 2 scoops in a Green Smoothie every morning.
But I don’t just throw it in there for fun. It’s SUPER good for you.
- Hemp is a vegan source of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fiber, chlorophyll
- Gluten-Free
- A complete protein, meaning is supplies enough of each of the essential amino acids to contribute to the human body’s requirements
- Helps repair muscles
- Supports growth of lean body mass
- Hemp protein is made up of “Edestin:” a type of plant protein that is similar to protein found in the human body, making it perfect for cellular needs like DNA repair
- Easily digested and assimilated because hemp protein is similar to human protein
- Has essential polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-6 and omega-3 at the optimal 3:1 balance
- “Cold pressed” or “Raw”
I think the most popular protein powders out there are “Whey” and “Soy.” Both of which, hemp beats. Whey is made from dairy products and often has a ton of additives in the commercial brands (plus my body doesn’t like dairy too much).
And here’s a case against soy:
- Soy has more protein per serving
- BUT many soy powders that are not organic are often processed with chemicals
- Soy can cause stomach upset and gas in some individuals
- There’s no known allergens present in Hemp Protein Powder
- Soy protein powders are often derived from genetically modified soybeans
- Hemp has a more environmentally friendly growing process because hemp doesn’t require Herbicides or Pesticides to grow easily
I was super lucky that Manitoba sent me some hemp products to try and review. How can I not love all this goodness? I was sent the vanilla and chocolate flavors, as well as a sample bag of shelled hemp seed. Thanks, Manitoba!
What is your must-have smoothie ingredient? Foe me, banana. Hands Down.
Do you use protein powders? If so which one? Yeah, hemp.
What is one “health choice” you cant live without? Exercising? A Salad a day? Mine is, without a doubt, my morning green smoothie!
(PS. You can buy Manitoba Hemp Powder, the vanilla
or chocolate
, at a discount on Amazon

My must have smoothie ingredient is banana. I LOVE bananas in smoothies!
I like to eat a big salad every day — it is easy to bring for lunch at work, and means I get a bunch of veggie servings without having to even think!
I love Hemp protein! The stats are just amazing and they taste so good. I am loving hemp seeds sprinkled on just about everything lately! Your smoothies look delicious. I don't know if I could choose between my healthy thing, but it would be somewhere between exercise, salads and oatmeal.
I used unflavoured Absolute Vegetarian Protein which is a mix of Soy Protein, Pea Protein, and Rice Protein and it's non-GMO.
I don't like the flavoured stuff and while I like Hemp protein I find it's a bit too expensive.
oh good find! I've been meaning to try rice and pea protein. I'm going to look into this.
ive been meaning to try pea protein—yeah, processed junk is no good.
I just discovered green monsters and I'm loving them. Coconut water sounds like it's worth a try!
I also just started really getting into running, and now I don't think I can go without the stress relief!
I don't use protein powder. Maybe it's just I've never found one I like, but they never sit very well with me. My days always have to start with a good sweat session!
That's why Hemp Protein is so good for you ~ It's easily digestible and contains no added ingredients like whey.
I totally must have a banana in my smoothies too – helps thicken it up! I also like a frozen fruit of some sort, to keep it cold without adding ice.

mm the chocolate one is my favorite!! i love the texture it makes in smoothies and homemade softserves <3
I like the idea of the hemp protein but not enough to pay the extra money. I looked at the prices and they were at least 50% more than what I pay for Whey protein and that adds up when II have at least one smoothie a day.
