Smoothie time
If you haven’t read my most delicious smoothie ever post, please do. The recipe for the smoothie I’m about to discuss is there, but I also go into the ways EVERY ingredient is good for you… coconut water with its electrolytes and pH leveling, blueberry age and skin aid, goji protein and vitamin E, cacao energy and mood booster, etc etc etc. I used to use flax seed in my smoothie, but have found something better. Actually, both are really good, but it’s easier for me to have flax in other ways (like raw breads) so it has kindly stepped aside.
Hemp protein is my newest added ingredient to the Vitamix in the morning. So now the recipe looks a bit like this:
Cacao Antioxidant Smoothie with Hemp:
1 cup coconut water (if wanting to cut down on cost, i’ll do 1/2 filtered water)
1/2 cup frozen blueberries (or mixed berries)
1 tbs raw cacao/maca powder
1 tbs goji berries
2 tbs hemp protein powder (this is 1/2 a serving, but it saves on cost for my poor student self)
Blend all ingredients and drink!
Why add hemp protein to my already delicious and extremely healthy smoothie (seriously, check this out). Only to be even healthier!
HEMP BENEFITS:
- Vegan complete protein (other vegan protein sources do not contain all 20 essential amino acids, leaving grains and legumes incomplete)
- Contains all 20 essential amino acids including the 9 our bodies can’t produce
- Good polyunsaturated fats (omega-3,-6, and -9 plus GLA)
- Chlorophyll
- Vitamin E
- Iron
- Research shows hemp can reduce cardiovascular disease risk and risk of some cancers
- Can improve rheumatoid arthritis and bipolar disorder
Maybe one of the best things about hemp powder is that it’s a RAW PROTEIN. The book, The Health Revolution, quotes Dr. Willard Visek, Professor of Clinical Sciences at the University of Illinois Medical School as saying, “Cooked protein is difficult to digest, and when incompletely digested protein enters the colon it putrefies and ammonia is formed…In the digestion of proteins, we are constantly exposed to large amounts of ammonia in our intestinal tract. Ammonia behaves like chemicals that cause cancer or promote its growth. It kills cells, it increases virus infection, it affects the rate at which cells divide, and it increases the mass of the lining of the intestines. Ammonia, which is produced in great amounts as a by-product of meat metabolism, is highly carcinogenic and can cause cancer development.”
If this doesn’t make you want to change your breakfast (lunch and dinner too)….
